The first time I saw Zuza Mengham's beautiful resin sculptures I was mystified, hypnotised, mesmerised and every emotion in between. The range of pastel hues, sharp angles, mixed textures and opacities hinted at a slight nostalgia of beautiful natural minerals and crystals with a modern edge and sharp eye for color balance. Zuza not only has an apparent talent when it comes to thoroughly understanding colors, but a talent for handmade sculptural work using contemporary materials.

She teamed up with Laboratory Perfumes, a British parfumier known for creating gender free scents, to create five sculptural translations of five of their fragrances.

"I made a conscious decision not to read the descriptions, but to smell them all and see what I could decipher from them first directly, taking notes and ideas.

After I matched them up with their descriptions I made a series of drawings with watercolour overlays, building up the colours and patterns until I was happy they translated in a way that felt appropriate."

Zuza's sculptures will be shown at the Conran Shop in London between the 15th-25th of September as part of London's Design Festival. Have a look at the contemporary, slightly mystic and mysterious sculptures below.
