say hi to_ Denmark

Winter has taken over Copenhagen, which is a perfect occasion to visit some extremely cool design companies and artists. This month you’ll find anything from kitchenwares to furniture designers. I really hope, that you’ll enjoy this month’s round-up as much as I enjoyed making it.

&Tradition is a Danish design company which produces classical designs by Verner Panton and Arne Jacobsen. Besides this, they create their own pieces with a great respect to nature and its raw materials. &Tradition always incorporates the Nordic tradition and heritage and they aim to bridge function and form, material and potential and craft and art. This shows in their contemporary designs where every aspect is reshaped, redefined and reinvented.

Poppykalas is an amazing flower business, founded in August 2017 by florist Thilde Maria, who has a background in performing arts . The extraordinary thing about Poppykalas is Thilde’s way of staging flowers in different ways to challenge the usual way of arranging flowers. It’s very obvious, that Poppykalas already has its own distinctive and exclusive style based on art history, popular culture and Japan. It’s no surprise that this company already reaches customers like Arken, Stine Goya, Hugo Boss, Normann Copenhagen, Baum & Pferdgarden, Ganni, Georg Jensen Damask, Bang & Olufsen and many others. Anyone to get a bouquet from Poppykalas would be lucky.

A lot of you might know Stelton already as they are an established trendsetting design house with high ambitions to be the preferred choice when customers look for great design. Based on the Scandinavian design philosophy, Stelton represents the top of Danish design and their products are always simple, classical and yet interesting.

NOTEM is a completely new stationery brand, that reflects a straightforward and functional approach to design. The newly launched collection consists of aesthetic and simple notebooks, notepads, planners and calendars where it’s easy to spot the Scandinavian design tradition of space and light. These products are extremely well curated, and I just love the fact that they are designed in Denmark and manufactured using only Scandinavian quality paper. I would urge everyone to keep an eye on NOTEM in the future.

This spectacular icon is located in the Copenhagen district called Nordhavn. THE KRANE was build in the 90’s but has undergone a huge renovation so it’s now a unique hotel experience. You’ll find a large, cosy and modern space in the old control central and from here you have a full view of the harbor. The old machine room has turned into a hotel room with its own bath, bar and greatest view. Besides, there’s a wonderful spa area with a bathtub and sauna. THE KRANE is by far the ultimate way of experiencing Copenhagen!

Paper Collective

Paper Collective is a Danish company that sells iconic design posters. They collect their own favourite designers, artists and illustrators to create inspirational and iconic graphic prints and products. Besides, each product is linked to a good cause somewhere in the world, so for every print sold, Paper Collective donates 10% to that good cause chosen by the artist. They have a small shop in the center of Copenhagen which is worth a visit if you’re a poster fan.
